Should a gene-edited crop be released?
Starting scenario
A gene-edited wheat line yields 18% more during drought and has 35% less fungal disease. In three field sites, a resistance allele appears in 2%, 6% and 19% of nearby wild grass seeds. The edited plants show unchanged protein content, but the trial lasted only two seasons.
